Once upon a time (a few days ago, actually), while I was quietly strolling through the streets of Instagram,
stalking admiring my Nigerian style crush with the low-cut hair (whom I revealed HERE), I found a “find” (hehe) and my eyes almost popped. 😀 I was so excited to share that I started typing this post almost immediately; never mind that it took me three days to complete. #LazyGirlProblems
My people, Its SLKT ONLINE! Pronounced “Select”. Someone needs to tell my brain that though, because it just keeps pronouncing the alphabets one after the other as opposed to just saying “select”. Sigh.
Anyway, first it was their tagline that made me chuckle a little. It says “No bending, just select” Get it? No? You people don’t buy “thrifted”? Lol.
Jokes aside though, SLKT is a Nigerian online store that sells gently-used clothes for a fraction of the original price. And it’s quite a fraction, I tell you. They source for used clothes from all over the country, select the very best and primp them for resale. Kinda like a thrift store, but more convenient. I got that last line from their “About us” page, BTW.
So that sorta makes this budget-find a double blessing. Ye of the overflowing wardrobe say “Aye”! Now you can make some money from selling those clothes you no longer want. *Highfives you* Get details HERE. PS: The process sounds truly stress-free.
To be honest, when I discovered them on Instagram, I was a bit skeptical of what I’d find on their website, because well, this is used clothes we’re talking about. But I stomped along with an open mind and was pleasantly pleased, if there’s such a phrase as that. Guys, they have really lovely clothes which didn’t look “used” at all. In fact, the alaroro in me can’t wait for them to start stocking shoes and bags as well.
They currently have over a hundred clothes for sale and their shipping (which BTW, is nationwide) cost is quite affordable. I also loved how well-styled their models are. You don’t see that very often on online stores around here.
As for the juicy bit, a.k.a pricing, SLKT tops go for as low as N750, Shirts as low as N1,000 and dresses from N2,000. Even co-ords go for about N2,500! Budget find, or wah???
One thing to note though, is that their deals, like many foreign “deals” websites, are for members only. So you’d have to register to get access. But don’t worry, the process is quick and easy.
The only thing I didnt like was that I once tried to make a purchase and at check-out, I noticed an additional N300 bill which was labelled “tax”. Is this a new thing online stores do, or is it just exclusively SLKT? I feel the tax should have been added to the original cost of the item so that while making their selections, people can know exactly how much they’re going to be charged. I’d like to know you guys thoughts on this.
Here are some SLKT pieces I loved and their prices.
Will I be shopping from SLKT? Absolutely! Will you? I’d love to know. And if you already have shopped from them, please share your experience with us below. I’d also love to know; what’s your take on buying used clothes? 🙂
New to the “budget finds” party? You can totally catch up HERE. 😉
